How Do You Make An Egg Float?

You add salt to the water!  The jar on the right has only water in it.  The jar on the left has salt in it.  The amount of salt depends on how big your jar is!  The kids thought it was magic!

Slime

 

This stuff is so cool!  It melts in your hands, but it also feels hard to the touch!  GREAT for sensory!

Recipe for Slime:

1 16oz. box of cornstarch
1 1/2 cups water
food coloring

In a large bowl put in cornstarch.  I add the coloring to the water and then dump it in.  You have to knead it to get it to mix together.  It has such a weird texture, but the kids love it!

"Magic Snow"

Green Gak!

Recipe for Gak:

1 cup glue
1 cup liquid starch
food coloring

Mix together in a bowl.  There will look like there is a lot of extra liquid.  Knead the mixture with your hand and the liquid will eventally soak in.

The kids like to use the magnifying glasses to look at the fake bugs, and the real ones too!

Day 4

We have had our caterpillars for 4 days and they have grown an inch. They are an inch and a half long! They grow so fast!

Butterfly Life Cycle

Our caterpillars have arrived!

Our caterpillars arrived in the mail today. They are about a half inch long. The stuff in the bottom of the cup is their food. They have formed webs in the jar to maneuver around, and yes the "stuff" stuck to the web is their waste! I will take a picture again in a couple days and they will probably have doubled their size!

Luke making snow castles! The kids really like bringing the snow inside and watching it melt. Sometimes we sprinkle different things on the snow to see what makes it melt faster. We have used salt, sugar, pepper, bread crumbs, etc... So it's a little sensory and science all mixed together!
